Washtenaw Community College Funding Sources for Faculty


About:

Per section 0125 of the faculty contract (2015-2018), faculty assignments covering student non-classroom activities which are originated by the College will be reimbursed from a fund of $18,000 for each year of the agreement to be authorized by the Contract Implementation Committee.

Application Process:

Departments may submit petitions for these funds for individual faculty (no more than $2,000 per individual instructor) by March 1 (for the upcoming academic year) and that department will be notified of approval the following May 1. The department is required to submit a short report describing the non-classroom activity and how it benefits students in their program.

About:

Student Development works with faculty members to coordinate academic conference travel events in which faculty and students attend educational conferences hosted by national academic associations to compete for awards or provide educational service directly related to the curriculum of study. $17,000 has been budgeted in academic conference travel for 2015-2016, and $15,000 for 2016-2017.

Application Process:

Interested faculty should contact Director of Student Development and Activities for updates. (Formal committee-graded application process for 2016-2017 will open starting September 1, 2015.)

About:

Many faculty members act as advisors to student clubs and collaborate with student leaders to develop co-curricular club activities, travel opportunities and community events. Each student organization receives up to $200 each semester, with the opportunity to fundraise for larger-cost trips/activities.

Application Process:

Interested faculty should identify and work with student leaders to develop a student club related to the faculty members’ academic expertise. The Student Organizations Office can help facilitate this process.

About:

Faculty Mini-Grants are a commitment of time and resources from the Student Activities Office to collaboratively develop a co-curricular event or activity. Open to all FT and PT faculty.

Application Process:

Six grants of up to $250 awarded each fall and winter semester, totaling $3,000 annually.
