Gary Berg, author of the book, “Low-Income Students and the Perpetuation of Inequality” is interviewed about several points that he made regarding how disadvantaged students are short changed in academia. Topics such as the need to enroll and retain low income students and the dependence on text based education are discussed. Berg states that the frequent inability to read and write at a college level and the inability for instructors to connect to low income students on topics commonly known to more affluent students are both hindrances to their education. Berg summarizes by stating that those in higher education must be part of a change for lower income students.
